UV
Application Procedure:
A.
Surface Preparation:
1.
Make sure that surface is completely dry and free from moisture.
(For concrete countertops this is usually 5 days from date
of pour and 24 hours after wet grinding)
2. Use drop cloths and paper to protect flooring, cabinets
ECT…
3. Lightly sand surface with 200 grit ensuring to remove
and loose material or laitance
4. Clean surface thoroughly with acetone, taking care to
ensure there is no residual contamination or residues.
B.
Product Application:
1.
Roll on base layer of resin material at a nominal thickness
of 2-3 mils over entire surface.
2. Allow coating to level and out-gas this should take about
5-15 minutes
3. “B-Cure” base layer to tacky touch with the
handheld light unit. This is accomplished by holding the
light about 18” above the surface and passing over
at a rate of approx.10’ per minute.
4. “A-Cure” to final hardness with the handheld
light unit. This involves 3 passes with the light ½
to 1” above the surface and a rate of about 5’
per minute.
5. Sand surface with heavy grit and orbital sander, usually
100-150 works well. Wipe with acetone to ensure that all
sanding fines and contamination are removed.
6. Repeat steps 1-4 with the second coat.
C.
Finishing and Polishing:
1.
Use dual action sander to remove air born dust particles,
and achieve desired gloss level. Starting with a 100m (150
grit) proceeding through 60m (220 grit), 30m (350 grit),
15m (600 grit), Trizact A10 (800 grit), and Trizact A5 (1200
grit). This procedure is our recommendation but you may
find that other methods may suit you better.
2. If a gloss finish is desired you may continue on with
Imperial polishing compound buffing with lambs wool buffer
if required.
3. One option that works for some applicators is to use
the 150 grit described above and then a 3M-7446B Scotchbrite
pad followed by a 3M-8447B Scotchbrite pad.
D. Safety Notification
1.
The work area will require isolation from customers and
employees to avoid exposure to damaging UV light rays.
2. Applicator must cover all exposed skin and wear protective
UV eyewear while the UV light is on.
3. Care must be taken to “Dock” the UV light
in a safe area so as to avoid damage to any surfaces exposed
to it.
